HomeworkCoach can advocate for you in school

When your school is not following through

Our homework coaches always try to work in sync with your child’s teachers. But what if the school is falling down on its obligations to do the best for the child? It’s not unusual for our homework coach to report back to us that the school has not put an IEP or 504 Plan into place for your student — or is not following through on what the Plan says.  That’s where our ADHD Advocacy Services can help.

504 Plan or IEP Review

Our Education Specialist will explain your rights and options as you work with the school to provide the testing and accommodations your ADHD child needs

  • We can help you request testing for your child by the school
  • We can advise you on what sorts of accommodations might be appropriate for your child.
  • We will review any existing 504 Plan or IEP and help you prepare for your next meeting with school
  • We will accompany you to an IEP meeting (or refer you to a local Advocate we trust).

We’ve put together an exhaustive list of accommodations you should consider asking the school to implement.

An Integrated ADHD Program

We added advocacy services to give parents an integrated program to ensure the school success of their ADHD-diagnosed child. Your homework coach will build your child’s Executive Function skills at home, while your HomeworkCoach Education Specialist will help you obtain the services your child is entitled to in the classroom.  Our Advocate will work with our Executive Function Specialist and homework coach to make sure they understand what’s in your IEP or 504 Plan. The coach will have visibility into what’s happening at school and can provide insights that will help you and the advocate.

Our 504 Plan allows for John to receive a reduced amount of homework. One teacher told him to do the easiest half of the homework. But that’s not what we wanted: John needs to be challenged. Our homework coach noticed what was happening and told our advocate, who helped us write a letter to the teacher requesting more thoughtful assignment of homework.

This is the power of an integrated team: Parent, Coach and Advocate!

Partnering with Education Consultants and Advocates Nationwide

HomeworkCoach is gradually building out its network of qualified advocates. For more complex cases we will partner with third party advocates and companies. Although they will bill you separately, we will continue to work with them, so that your homework coach stays informed of what’s happening in school and can, in turn, provide feedback to your advocate.
